D is Dreaming

Now, here I go again
I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It’s only me who want to
Wrap around your dreams
And have you any dreams you’d like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of rememberin’
What you had and what you lost
—Fleetwood Mac

Whenever I think of dreams, this famous Fleetwood Mac song plays in my head. Dreams play a vital role in our lives. We know that dreaming is when we consolidate and organize information from the day. But for me, dreams are much more.

During the dream state, we receive messages from the universe. These messages may come from our spirit guides, who are helping us find our path or stay on it. Other messages come directly from a loved one. This often happens shortly after your special person has crossed over and wants you to know he or she is okay. Or a dream may come as an assignment regarding something we need to work on or an area of our life that needs improvement. This is often a recurring dream that will continue until the work is done.

I have many dreams where I’m at work and tasked with a project I must finish before the dream ends. Considering how long I’ve been retired, it may seem strange that I dream about work. But I know this dream relates to my desire to achieve an important goal I have set that is nagging at me because it’s incomplete.

I write down any story dreams that come to me as those I can use in my books. I have a dream from my childhood that is long and complex that someday I may turn into a short story or movie script. As I still remember this dream so vividly, I know it’s something I need to use.

The last point I want you to understand is that dreams often reflect our desires – for a particular person, place, or event. Spend time understanding the desire, and don’t assume you’ve received a message to pursue it, particularly if it involves a person. Determine what is driving the desire, as it may be that something is missing or needs modification, not a disruptive change.

I’ll save the discussion of nightmares for another blog, as they play a different but essential role.

Enjoy your Christmas and the dreams that come!
